Dry steam cleaners work in a completely different manner than their “wet” counterparts. When turned on, they produce water molecules which are heated up to above 140°C, which is a critical number as typically the required heat to make steam is only 110°C. With “wet” steam cleaners, the produced steam creates moisture when a surface is exposed to it, but the dry streamer has a lot less moisture and gives out more pressure. Its cleaning is much more powerful than the other type of steam cleaner, it shoots the steam right into the problem spot and cleanses surfaces with as little effort as possible. And yet it still does not require any chemicals, and the lack of moisture during the cleaning means less chance of producing mould.
The way to operate the machine is actually very easy, so even if you don’t bother to read the instructions, like a true expert handyman, you can still figure out how to do it on your own. Here is a quick guide, though, if you feel unsure about your handyman capabilities.
• When you fill up and ready the machine, let it release its first burst freely. Watch the ‘OK’ light and once it is ready, that is to say, turns green – or, if there is no OK light, after about half an hour after turning the machine on – you should depress the release trigger and spill the condensed water inside the hose. Once the pressure dial drops to normal levels, you can freely start using the machine, regardless of what the ‘OK’ light says.
• When using the dry steam cleaner for disinfecting and it is required to release extreme heat, but you are afraid that you will damage a surface along with killing the dust mites, you should know that the different attachments like the towel head will suppress the heat and you can do the sweeping easier without fearing of burning something.
• You need to keep the pressure dial in the normal zone of the streamer in order to maintain the continuous steaming and cleaning. Set the openings to low or medium, but very rarely, if ever, to high, and your hot steam will be ensured. When set to high, the steamer is in its most open position and it lets out plenty of steam, but little of that steam actually maintains the high heat that you want when using a dry steam cleaner.
• When you are trying to remove a single stain and not just remove the dust while carpet cleaning, what you need is heat transfer. This means that after rubbing over a stain with the machine, you should continue with another area of the carpet and later return to the spot once the heat has spread and the stain has been weakened. Whatever you do, do not stay on one spot for too long or you may either damage the area, or leave it damp enough to start gathering mould.
