Easy Steps to Remove Ice Cream Stains
Eating ice cream is fun until it spills on your clothes or carpet. We all know how hard it is to clean some carpets. Furthermore, if the stain is on a bright-coloured item of clothing, you may find yourself figuring out how you can effectively remove it. Once the ice cream lands on your garment or carpet, you don’t have to panic. All you need to do is to follow these simple cleaning tips and voila, your piece of fabric will be free from all ice cream stains.
1. Use a Spoon for Scooping the Ice Cream off the Fabric
The first measure to undertake is to go to the kitchen and find a spoon. When using the spoon to scoop the spilt ice cream, ensure that it doesn’t grind into the fibres of your clothes or carpet. Remove it slowly and place it in a bowl or cup. You can get on your knees as you undertake this procedure or bend slightly to the ground. Either way, make sure that you are in a comfortable posture.
2. Use a Cloth Soaked in Club Soda or Cool Water to Rinse the Fabric
The good thing about using club soda to rinse the residues of the ice cream from your carpet is that it combines well with the stain. You can also use cool water to do the same. Regardless of what liquid you use, ensure that you sponge the soaked cloth several times for the stain to dissolve well. Once you’re done, use a dry cloth to blot the area. Many professional cleaners use club soda when carrying out upholstery cleaning as it a safe and eco-friendly alternative to chemical cleaners.
3. Use a Mixture of Water and Dish Liquid to Remove the Ice Cream Stain
Measure a ½ tablespoon of dish liquid and pour it into a bowl. Measure a cup of water and pour it to the bowl for it to mix with the dish liquid. Use the solution to sponge the stained area on your carpet. Sponge the area until the stain begins to disappear. Once you’re done, look for a dry cloth and use it to dry the surface.
If you don’t have dish liquid in your house, you can also utilize white foam shaving cream. While using the cream, use a toothbrush for running it gently into the fibres of your carpet. Be sure to sponge the stained area with water as a way of rinsing it. Repeat this procedure over and over again until the ice cream completely disappears. White foam shaving cream is widely used by homeowners for removing grease stain when doing the house cleaning.
4. Use Ammonia for Stubborn Stains
At times, the dish liquid or white foam shaving cream may not be as effective as you expect. When one of these two cleaning solutions fails to remove the stains, use ammonia. In this case, mix ½ cup of ammonia with one cup of water and sponge the mixture onto the stained area. Prior to doing this, pour a drop of the solution on the carpet to see if it reacts with the carpet. It is also advisable not to use ammonia on carpets made of wool. Carpet cleaning is a difficult job especially if you are not pretty sure what you need to do.
5. Use a Dry Cloth to Dry the Surface
The final step is to use a dry cloth to remove excess water that may be on the surface. Repeat this procedure until the surface is dry. Once you’re done with this carpet cleaning exercise, you can clean the cloth used for drying.
