Most Common Window Cleaning Mistakes You May not Know

window cleaning

If there is one thing that most people hate about home cleaning, it is having to deal with dirty windows. Windows are one of the areas of your home that you have little control over. After all, you cannot protect the outside of your windows from whatever spoils end up there on the outside. All you can do is address the issue by introducing some effective window cleaning.

That part of your domestic chores requires more thought than you think. The last thing you want is to double your effort because you were ineffective the first time. Unfortunately, if you don’t pay attention to certain aspects of the job, you will have to redo. Here are few of the most common mistakes you should avoid, if you want to ensure a job well done:

cleaning windows

-    Not being careful with the task - this is not to say you are being ineffective at window cleaning. On the contrary, in your attempts to finish the job, you may jump into it without any regard for your own safety. There are numerous examples of people getting hurt, while attempting to clean high-storey windows. It is no surprise that cleaning companies come equipped with a ton of gear for this kind of task, as certain heights are tough to reach for the regular unprepared cleaner. If you have to clean windows located high on your property, make sure you do so with all the safety measures needed and by using specialised equipment. You don’t want to get hurt, while doing this task, do you?

-    Cleaning on a sunny day - you may think that working on a sunny day is the best chance you get at dealing with this job, but you are wrong. The truth is that window cleaning done on a hot sunny day may prove to be ineffective. The reason behind this is that any cleaner sprayed on your windows will dry out too quickly and leave streaks that are hard to remove. The best time to deal with your windows is on a cloudy day or at least at a time of the day when the windows fall in the shadow.

-    Not using enough cleaner - if you do not use enough window cleaner for the job, you cannot possibly be hoping to call it well done. Effectively dealing with all of the dirt requires generous amounts of your chosen solution, whether it’s something you just cooked up in accordance with a green cleaning recipe, or you have bought one from the store.

cleaning window sashes

-    You ignore the sashes and sills - you don’t think that the glass is the only part of your window that needs cleaning, do you? The sash, sill and frame of your windows are in need of cleaning as well, as they collect dust and dirt in large amount. It’s wise to deal with these areas first before you get to the glass as that will guarantee thorough and effective window cleaning.

domestic cleaning

-    Using newspaper to dry the surface - maybe it’s true that newspaper works, but maybe it just does a sloppy and ineffective job, which you can easily handle with a microfiber cloth. These are absorbent and can be easily washed, not to mention that they leave the glass looking streak-free and shiny like it’s brand new.

-    Drying with a linty paper towel - weak towel that just tears at several places is not a good material to dry the windows with. Make sure you conclude your cleaning efforts with a product that is up for the task, if not a microfiber cloth.

Hopefully by now you have learned what NOT to do when attempting to clean your windows so that the next time you attempt this task you are most effective at it. Window cleaning doesn’t have to be all that difficult, if you know how to approach it.
